What. A. Man.
At 68 Bobby Womack has created a gritty soul & electronic-fused album produced by Damon Albarn & XL Records' Richard Russell (who engineered the last album from the late Gill Scott-Heron), which has reinvented & boosted his legendary voice.
Womack's 27th album boasts some admirable collaborations from Lana Del Ray, Gill Scott-Heron & Fatoumata Diawara, which all contrast & compliment the moody beats with Womack's gravelly tone, sombre emotion & lyrics (he fell prey to cocaine addiction, a violent & turbulent personal life as well as cancer).
Favourites from the album are 'The Bravest Man In The Universe', 'If There Wasn't Something There' & 'Stupid'.
Here's a great little video behind the making of the album...
