Spotify Apps

Finally, after reading an article on Spotify's new App feature a few months ago they have launched it today!

App finder enables you to add and listen to some of your favourite blog and magazine's Apps (such as The Guardian & Rolling Stone) with their picks on top tracks and reviews on Spotify. There are also Apps like Moodagent which allow you to choose an emotion to fit your mood at the time.

It also enables people who are completely unlinked to you to view and listen to your playlists with the 'ShareMyPlaylists' App, as well as the 'Top 10' App which allows you to view and create top rated playlists on Spotify, view ratings and vote on them. My personal favourite is 'We are Hunted' which gives you a great selection of new artists which you may otherwise miss.

Social media is moving forward once again...here's to many more playful days.

Mish Mash of Tracks

Some favourite tracks from this week...

Lianne performed this track at a private event I attended a few weeks ago. It's a truly stunning track which is even better live.

Fell in love with this at a recent Gang Colours set

Illustrated People

 Favourite pick

Men's

Illustrated People have a tasty little selection of Women's & Men's designs.
Women's: racer-back vests, crop tops, sweaters, knitwear & boyfriend t-shirts.
Men's: Classic t-shirts & Relaxed t-shirts.

Their floral embroidered skull knit in grey caught my eye originally and I like the overall simplicity of their designs. Each item comes in a choice of black, white, grey or beige.

Martyn - Ghost People

Dutch producer Martyn's latest album 'Ghost People' has been playing out on my speakers over the last few weeks and it's really grown on me. With his new wave dance-garage beats Martyn is set to lead the way for the bass scene in 2012.

Best album track is 'Ghost People'.

Some tracks which have made me smile this week...

I love this even more because for a long time I thought they were singing 'Who's gonna sit on your face when I'm gone'.

'Boom Blast'

Wiley's new track 'Boom Blast" is on the horizon and it's already causing some hype.

Here's a snippet...

Killer Capelet

Topshop's new embellished fringe Capelet from their luxe 'Dress Up' range is perfect for throwing over a grey t-shirt or LBD for some extra edge this season...as long as the weight of it doesn't pin you down.

Support the Tache

Not long left to show your support for Movember and donate to any of your boys who have become pretty unattractive this month for charity - Too many look-a-like 70's pornstars for my liking.

Moustache Nails, why not? Cute little 'how to' video from Cutepolish, they also have a great blog with every design you could ever lust after - http://cutepolish.blogspot.com/

M83 - 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'

On the whole M83's (Anthony Gonzalez) albums so far have been progressively good with the odd epic track and 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' is no different. What sets it apart is the inclusion of a few more stand out anthemic tracks in comparison to previous albums 'Saturday=Youth' & 'Digital Shades'.
The second track on the album 'Midnight City' is one of my favourite tracks this year, every time I hear it my heart jumps and I get a tad nostalgic. Other top tracks: 'Claudia Lewis', 'OK Pal' & 'Steve McQueen'.

'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' is a big ball of melancholic vocals, 80's synths and folk/retro-rock which crescendos in the middle and then washes over you at points with some of the instrumentals but overall I like it, a definite grower. When you learn that the album was created whilst in the Joshua Tree desert, California suddenly it all makes sense, all he needs now is a film to accompany the soundtrack.

And who doesn't love a bit of sexy sax too...

Art Department - Essential Mix (BBC Radio1)

 Live at Maida Vale

One of my absolute favourites this year are Art Department, I've seen them a few times and they never fail to bring the crowds to a state of ecstasy. They've recorded an epic Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 and Art Department have personally expressed just how monumental it was for them to take part as it is for us to hear...
"There have been a few landmark projects/moments in our music careers that stand out above the rest.. This is one.....
Massive thank you to the BBC for supporting our music in a huge way this year, it's been an honor to work with them.... hope you guys enjoy our contribution to this legendary show" ART DEPARTMENT.
With Kenny's recorded vocals from a Maida Vale session their mix is a huge treat, if you can sit still whilst listening to this there's something seriously wrong with you...I suggest seeking medical advice.

Baths

Will Wiesenfeld's album Cerulean has been a highly acclaimed album on the underground scene since it's release and his track 'Lovely Blood Flow' is beautiful with an even more beautiful video. Wiensenfeld combines an eerie storyline with stunning graphics to create something very special.

Nicholas Kirkwood Fall 2011

Want...
I find these ... interesting?
I'm expecting to find some eyes staring back at me under this wooly fringing
Perfect fall colour
Nicholas Kirkwood's Fall 2011 collection has come to my attention, mainly because I love the chunky platforms (especially the leather fringed boots) but also because of the lambs wool fringing, which I'm finding hard to envisage without it looking a bit pony? However, the use of Mongolian lambs wool works perfectly on other designs with small influences (as with the grey stiletto peep-toe boots), this is what Kirkwood does best, using delicate hints of gold plating, pony hair and wool combined with beautiful leathers and intricate patterns.

It's a really diverse collection, so check it out...

Fair Ohs

I have recently been introduced to the Fair Ohs and keep playing their very entertaining video for 'Everything is Dancing'.

Made up of Eddy Frankel,
Matt Flag and Joe Ryan the Fair Ohs have a great sound which is sits somewhere between energetic punk pop and sleepy rock, they describe themselves as 'Like Paul Simon but, you know... punk'. It's perfect summer listening...we just need a summer.

Maverick Sabre

Over the past few weeks I've developed a slight obsession with Maverick Sabre and after looking him up I realised he had done some big collaborations which I was already a fan of; 'Jungle' with Professor Green, 'I just wana sit' with Chattabox & Sam Otis, 'Fire in your eyes' with Chase & Status, 'In the air' with True Tiger & Professor Green.

Maverick's just finished touring with Snoop Dogg and his career is about to rocket. His voice has tones of Finley Quaye to it and Maverick has one of the most bizarre accents I've heard (thanks to being from Stoke Newington and growing up in Ireland).

Favourite tracks are; 'I need', 'Look what I've done' and 'Run to the roof', get your ears around these...

Kids Love Ink

Recently a good friend of mine got inked by Charlie Shazer of the Kids Love Ink family at his new shop on Cheshire Street (off Brick Lane) and it's got me thinking about my next design.

Charlie is the most talented tattoo artist I have witnessed and his free-hand skills are pretty special to say the least, I was completely mesmerised. Drop him a line if you're considering some new ink, his work is stunning.

Watch a brief interview with Charlie from SpineTV...

Bear Hug - The 2 Bears

For the last 3 weeks I've not been able to get 'Bear Hug' by The 2 Bears out of my head. The huggable twosome are made up of Raf Rundell (DJ and Promoter) and Joe Goddard (of Hot Chip fame) who's love blossomed for each other whilst on the DJ circuit in London.

Bear Hug makes me smile every time I hear it and the track carries a good wedge of humour with it too...especially the music video.

Take a look.

Deena & Ozzy Platform

I have a bad case of shoe envy with these new wooden platforms from Deena & Ozzy at Urban Outfitters, £140. They are fantastic with the studds, leather and very chunky wood, I especially love the heel. Perfect for giving summer outfits a bit more edge.

Now I just have to weigh up the likeliness of me breaking my ankle in them / increasing my chances of falling down the stairs for the fith time in month?

Hmm...

Henrik Schwarz - Live

Undoubtably Henrik Schwarz was one of the best, if not the best DJ I saw last year so when a friend handed me his new Live album I was excited to say the least! I have abused the album the whole week using it to wake me up whilst travelling to work, unwind my mind after and to lift me up before heading out.

Henrik pulls together soulful vocals with jazz, tribal tones and beats it into a climatic sound which gets you wiggling along to an album made up of his own tracks and some of his best remixes.

If I had to choose a few of my favourite tracks from the album it would be his own 'Leave My Head Alone Brain', 'Imagination Limitation', Kuniyuki Takahashi's 'Earth Beats' and Mari Boine's 'Vuoi Vuoi', both remixed by Henrik.

Get playing...

Alexander McQueen's fall 2011 shoes are beautiful works of art which have mesmerised me with their unusual heal-less designs adorned with pony hair, metal plating, spikes and patterns. The designs are the perfect mix of edgy and elegant.

Whilst Iris Van Herpen's S/S and A/W shoe designs are stunning and reveal a small glimpse of the intricate sculptural collections they are part of. So delicious are these shoes, that if they met my feet I'd have to wear them to bed...
